Shito-Ryu Karate is one of the four original Karate styles that came from Okinawa and the style that we teach at Yates Martial Arts.
Yates Martial Arts is a family-run business. We have four young children, two of which are old enough to attend class. We understand the needs of families and look forward to sharing the benefits of Karate with our students in a family-friendly way, while still providing competition-level martial arts training.
The main instructor is Sensei Austin Yates, with 18 years experience. Training includes:
- The Korean art of Tae Kwon Do, black belt at age 13.
- Shito-Ryu Karate, black belt. Main training and competition style.
- Judo
- Boxing
- Kickboxing
- Muay Thai and others.
- Sensei Austin has competed in many tournaments on a national level including the Junior Olympics.
- While attending the University of Kentucky he ran a Karate school in Lexington for three years.
- Jessica Yates, a brown belt and AAU National Champion, has several years Karate experience, also helps with classes and is Sensei Austin's wife.
