I teach traditional Shito-Ryu Karate, one of the four original Karate styles that came from Okinawa. I began my martial arts training at age 8 in the Korean art of Tae Kwon Do, receiving my black belt at age 13. From there I began training in Shito-Ryu Karate also earning a black belt in that style. While maintaining Shito-Ryu as my primary style, I also trained in the arts of Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and others. I have competed in tournaments on a national level.
While attending the University of Kentucky I ran a Karate school in Lexington for three years. Over the years, Karate has taught me self-discipline, respect for others, self-confidence, physical fitness, a sense of achievement and much more. I have always been passionate about martial arts and it has been an important part of my life.
Yates Martial Arts is a family-run Karate school. I have three daughters of my own, two of which are old enough to attend these classes. Your first week is free, to meet me and try a class or two. I understand the needs of families and I look forward to sharing the benefits of Karate with all of my students.
